John Grisham was in Tupelo in early February to receive the Yocona Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America’s annual distinguished citizen award. He was honored as the “Distinguished Citizen” at the council’s Distinguished Citizen Banquet.
Grisham was introduced by Jack Reed, Sr, one of his early supporters who sold his books before he was such a well known author. Grisham returns to Tupelo to sign books in Mr. Reed’s store each year to return the favor he was afforded by Reed’s Bookstore.
Among other things Grisham talked about was his time in scouting and how he regrets not earning his eagle by only one merit badge and not completing his already started eagle project.” A record turn out was recorded at the banquet.
